Masi is one of Italy's best-known producers of Amarone, the wine equivalent of Dante's Inferno -- and yes Dante is the inspiration and ancestor for the family making this wine today (Serego Alighieri Dante). Unlike the Inferno however, this wine is balanced and not at all hot on the palate. Rather, it is very full-bodied with layers of complexity and dark fruit and a terrific long finish that lasts for, well, an eternity.

Masi Serego Alighieri Vaio Armaron Amarone Della Valpolicella food pairings: blue cheeses, lasagna, venison, beef daube, leg of lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Lesley Quinn - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Its mind blowing to witness how this wine can be both soft and powerful at the same time. The cherry and plum aromas give the wine a delicate nose but when you drink this wine it comes alive like a firecracker in your mouth. Intense baking spice notes are overlaid with juicy rich cherry flavours, and a finish that goes on forever. A luxurious way to cap off a meal or match it up with slow cooked ribs in a hoisin sauce.
