Toad Hall Cellars is a second generation family winery owned by The Komes Family, John and Carrie along with sons Otto and Nat, specializing in limited production Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Meritage blend known as Bodacious.

Toad Hall Cellars has been producing small productions of premium wines since 1984. It started out as a family project, which began with 10 cases of Chardonnay. Since then, Toad Hall Cellars has continued to produce wines from the family-owned vineyards in Napa Valley, representing two top appellations of the region: Carneros and Rutherford.

The name Toad Hall Cellars was created long before the varietals for bottling were even decided upon. Carrie, prior to her active participation as a winery entrepreneur, was a children’s librarian. The main character in the “The Wind in the Willows” is a “lovable rebel” called Toad. To Carrie, husband John, with his enthusiastic nature, independent attitude and gusto for living was a real life caricature of Toad. These traits, and John’s gift for spinning a good tale, led her to christen.

Our family-owned vineyards are the very heart of Toad Hall Cellars. The Pinot Noir is produced from our Lavender Hill Vineyard, located in the Carneros Appellation of the Napa Valley. The Bordeaux varietals for Bodacious and So Rare, our Cabernet Sauvignon, come from the highly acclaimed Rutherford Bench appellation, Windfall Vineyard. Each one of these growing areas, both located within Napa Valley, experience different growing conditions and soil compositions and imparts excellent quality into the grapes.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
