The vineyards of the Sepp Moser-family are located in two different areas: Kremstal and Neusiedlersee. In Lower Austria there are particularly expressive and mineral white wines that grow in the steep terraces of loess and conglomerate-decline, while the Seewinkel emphasis on structured red wines. Since 2006, the vines are cultivated biodynamicly, the 09er is the first with Demeter certification. Regionality and authenticity of the wines are in the focus. On elegance and profundity Niki Moser lays great emphasis, the wines are a perfect match for elegant dining.
The Moser family is one of the old and great wine-growing dynasties in Austria. The most famous offspring of the family is the renowned viticulture professor h.c. Lenz Moser. Around 1950 he developed the high training system of the vines, the so-called "Lenz-Moser culture".
Sepp Moser, son of Professor Lenz Moser, founded today's winery in Rohrendorf near Krems in 1987. The name has stayed the same, but since 2000 the estate has been run by his son Nikolaus «Niki» Moser and his wife Andrea. The first step was to switch to organic cultivation and in 2006 to biodynamic cultivation. In addition to the 24 hectares of vineyards in the Kremstal, 27 hectares in Burgenland also belong to the company.
White wines from the Kremstal ...
Nikolaus Moser's endeavors go back to the roots: "We produce wines from grapes from healthy vines that are an expression of the soil on which they grow," he says. Different soil types in two different regions and a wide range of varieties, in which the classics Grüner Veltliner and Riesling play the main role, offer plenty of scope for a large variety of wines. The terraced vineyards in the Kremstal are mainly exposed to the south and predominantly planted with white wine varieties.
... red wines from Burgenland
The red wines mature in Apetlon in the Neusiedlersee region of Burgenland. The lowest point in Austria at only 114 m above sea level has the most hours of sunshine in the country. The soils consist of deep black earth and are partly heavily streaked with gravel. Zweigelt grows on it, but also Blaufränkisch and Merlot and various white varieties, which are used for sweet wines.
Rich variety of wines
In the cellar, too, everything is subordinate to one goal: "For me, it's about bringing the quality from the grapes into the bottle as gently as possible," explains Niki Moser. All wines are fermented spontaneously with natural yeast - as little as possible is interfered with during vinification. "In this way, every wine can express its own character and regionality," the winemaker is convinced. The offer ranges from elegant, dry white wines to full-bodied red wines to expressive berry and dry berry selections.
