San Juan Vineyards is locally owned by Yvonne Swanber, Tim Judkins and his daughter, Madison. The property was purchased in 1996; the vineyard was planted; the old schoolhouse was renovated; and the journey began in developing San Juan vineyards to be a destination winery producing wines that have received much acclaim since production began in 1999.

There is a bit over 30 acres on the property, much is open and some wooded. We have close to 7 acres of planed vineyard. Because of the cool, coastal climate, only certain varieties will ripen in our Puget Sound area. We grow Madeleine Angevine and Siegerrebe, and there is an acre of Pinot Noir in the vineyard.

The grapes are from the same Northern European latitudes in Northern France and German at 47 degrees. The harvests are now bountiful with approximately 350 cases of Siegerrebe and 550 cases of Madeleine Angevine. Estate production accounts for about 30% of our total annual production of wines.

All wines are produced and bottled at our winery on Roche Harbor Road. The grapes purchased in the Yakima and Columbia Valleys are trucked to the island where full production takes places. The months of September and October are extremely busy with harvesting our own vineyards, transporting, crushing, pressing and fermenting all the fruit.

San Juan Vineyard’s wines are distributed through the State of Washington, and can be found in area grocery stores, wine specialty shops and restaurants. Watch for our schoolhouse label, and please ask for our wines at fine restaurants and stores. Our wines are prominently listed on most island restaurant wine lists.

We have quite an active wine club, and we ship our wines to over 30 states. Please check out our Wine Club information. And, keep us in mind for your corporate gift giving.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
