Cut into the heart of one of the gentle hills that rise between the Alice plain and the promontory on which the ancient town of Krimissa was built, the Librandi winery covers an area of 6,500 m2 and receives grapes from 230 hectares of vineyards in the classic Cirò territory referred to as the "feud", in the municipality of Strongoli and in the countryside around Rocca di Neto and Casabona.

The Librandi winery is a modern enterprise founded in 1950, but the family has been working with wines for centuries. Four generations of wine-growers lie behind Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi and their nephews Raffaele and Walter, who remain faithful to the principles that inspired their forefathers: a great wine requires love and dedication to the land and its history. Dedicated supporters of local wine-growing, the family continues working to improve quality and restore the fame enjoyed by the Cirò vineyards and wines in ancient times. The ancient traditions that earned this corner of Italy the name Enotria Tellus - land of wines - must not be allowed to die; the Librandi family keeps local tradition alive, cutting the vines low as their forefathers did and working hard to revive Calabria's traditional varieties. The family's insistence that their wines match the best produced anywhere in Italy has placed them in the forefront of the rebirth of Calabrian wine-growing.
The Librandi brothers run the winery themselves so as to stay in close contact with their land and their wines, without giving up the benefits offered by advanced techniques and administrative systems. The Librandis make the best of their vines, with careful attention to the processes of wine-making and refining employing systems that permit planning of the harvest, picking at just the right time, and rational winery organisation. In their attempt to make a name for themselves on the Italian wine scene the Librandis have not stopped at improving production of local wines but have performed a number of successful experiments involving planting of a series of internationally renowned varieties.

"The future of our wine depends on our ability to meld tradition with innovation, without the one overcoming the other": this is the Librandi philosophy.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
