Leidenfrost Vineyards is found in the heart of the Finger Lakes in New York State on the southeastern shore of Seneca Lake, an ideal microclimate to grow premium wine grapes. Our old established vineyards consist of 12 varieties of grapes, both Vinifera and Labrusca , that provide a broad palette for over 16 wines.

Founded in 1990, Leidenfrost Vineyards was one of the first Finger Lakes wineries to feature a broad spectrum of red wines, including Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Baco Noir. We also produce great Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Cayuga White, Catawba and Niagara wines.

From vineyard to tasting room our wines are created to please the most discriminating palate. Our tasting room staff is dedicated to providing a unique experience of our wines. We invite you to a tasteful experience in our beautiful timber frame tasting room overlooking beautiful Seneca Lake.

This new 2007 Pinot noir is probably the best vintage yet! With delicious notes of violet, cedar, resin and cherry fruit in the nose, followed by black cherry and strawberry flavors in mid-palate, the finish is long and pleasant. In 1984, the present proprietor, John Leidenfrost Jr., assumed control of the farm. Removing many of the older, less productive vineyards, he planted premium European Vinifera varieties, with the intent of offering a more diverse grape selection and someday creating an estate winery. His love of quality red wines prompted some of the earliest plantings of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc in the Finger Lakes, complementing the already well established Baco Noir variety on the farm. Along side the reds, John planted Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Vignoles, bringing the varieties planted to 27 acres. A lover of organic farming, John maintains the grapes in a sustainable fashion employing minimal use of herbicides and pesticides.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
