The philosophy of Goedhart Family is to make one wine and make it well. We focus our efforts on the production of a Syrah from the Red Mountain AVA, specifically Bel’ Villa Vineyard. The two most important factors to our winemaking style are tradition and the concept of terroir.

We make wine for people who believe that great wine should not overwhelm food, but compliment and complete the meal.

Brent and Sarah Goedhart started Goedhart Family in 2006. They live on Red Mountain among the Syrah vines that create the wine they are so passionate about. In 2008 their son Lucas was born and is on his way to becoming a great cellar hand. Sarah is also currently the assistant winemaker at Hedges Family Estate.

Our Syrah is a blend of both early and late pick fruit. The early pick provides bright red fruit flavors, high acidity and lower alcohol, while the late pick fruit provides a fuller mouth, darker gamey flavors and slightly higher alcohol. Bleeding off some of the juice (saignee method) is done to concentrate the Syrah's flavors and provide a rich dark color. The saignee juice is then made into a rose. We use just 30% new French oak from Nadalie and Seguin Moreau cooperages and age it for about 10 months before bottling.

Our current release is the 2008, 408 cases produced.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
