Manfred Esser's professional career began as a salesman for a large European winery. In 1974 Esser came to the United States and in a short period of time, acting as both President and CEO, built from zero the multi-million dollar Wine Import and Marketing BusinessPieroth WIV-USA based in Chicago, Illinois. When he left the organization had 30 sales offices with 500 employees selling a broad international wine portfolio.

The ESSER VINEYARDS Family

In 1986 Esser became president of CUVAISON winery in the Napa Valley. At that time, the winery's sales were down considerably with a high-accumulated loss. Two years later, the winery broke even. When he left Cuvaison, Export Share was 25% and Total Sales were 70,000 cases at a high end super-premium level. Esser's unique customer approach, to "Cuvainize" them, converting the clients into "Company Ambassadors" made the winery one of the most successful in the industry. In 1998 Esser sold his partnership in the winery.


In the fall of 2002 Manfred Esser saw the release of his own label: ESSER VINEYARDS.

Fashioned with the consumer in mind, ESSER VINEYARDS blends quality, value and elegance for the ultimate consumer friendly California wine.

In early 2005, ESSER CELLARS entered into a joint venture agreement, for the US market only, with W.J. Deutsch & Sons based in White Plains, New York joining their portfolio of award winning wines.

Manfred Esser is a widely acclaimed wine-marketing expert and a leading specialist in the rapidly growing field of "Customer Loyalty." Esser coined the phrase "Guilt Marketing" - a concept where "you treat your customers so well, that you create a sense of obligation to come back to your product or service and, even more than that, actually become Ambassadors for your company."
