Comtesse Thérèse is an artisanal wine producer located in Aquebogue, on the eastern end of Long Island, New York. The winery is one of the few in the world using Hungarian and Russian oak barrels, in addition to French and American oak, and the first winery on the east coast of the US to use Canadian oak Located in a charmingly renovated historic house from the 1830's on the Main Road in Aquebogue, NY, the cozy and intimate 28-seat bistro is expected to open in spring of 2010 and will serve local food, along with Comtesse Thérèse wines. Construction began in July 2009, but was delayed by a change in plans, to add on a 462-square foot extension and a second bathroom downstairs.

Comtesse Thérèse has pioneered the explicit use of Hungarian, Russian and Canadian oak barrels. Her Hungarian Oak Merlot, with a uniqueness and a hint of spice, has been a best-seller since 2001, and it won "BEST MERLOT IN NEW YORK" at the statewide NY Wine and Food Classic in 2004. The barrel-fermented Russian Oak Chardonnay is another hit wine, with the subtlety of Russian oak barrels lending just a hint of an oak touch, balancing the acidity and frutiness of the cool-climate chardonnay. The excellent 2007 vintage will see the debut of the world's first-ever Comtesse Thérèse Canadian Oak cabernet sauvignons. Later in 2010, the vineyard's first ever Sauvignon Blanc (the 2009) will also be released.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
