From South Australia's McLaren Vale, the 2017 vintage of Zonte's Footstep Chocolate Factory is a 100% Shiraz at a great price. This wine is savoury, juicy and meaty with mouth-watering flavours of fleshy ripe black raspberry and black plum. Spicy with dark pepper on the finish. Pair with grilled meats.

Shiraz food pairings: rosemary lamb, kangaroo tenderloin, roast pheasant.

Reviews and Ratings

Jisun Hahn CAPS Certified Somm rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia is both savoury and steeped in rich ripe fruit. Blackberry compote dominates with blackcurrants, cocoa and black olives. The texture is velvety and the flavours linger on the palate. A delectable wine that will be sure to impress any host. Pair with beef stroganoff or beef wellington.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

All around gushy Shiraz. Excellent price for a rich but balanced new world red.
It is 100 percent Shiraz aged in both American and French oak for a year (new and used, if you were wondering).
Virtually opaque purplish red, it has a wonderful nose of cherries preserved in liqueur, followed with cocoa, earthiness, and a faint spiciness (brown baking spice mostly).
High alcohol is hidden by voluminous cherry, plum, and berry on the palate. Acidity is there, so it isn't a sin to count this as a fruit-bomb. The chocolate is there, but there is honestly a lot of fruit here too.
Easy choice for those who love a cracking big red. It actually has great acid to cut through better cuts of beef.
It also went superbly well with lamb shepherd's pie.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

If you are looking for big, bold, dense, chewy in your wine then this wine's for you! Lots of dense dark fruit on the palate with nods toward chocolate . Pair with hearty stews or charcuterie platters. Tasted Nov 22, 2019 www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Zonte's Footstep Chocolate Factory Shiraz 2017 is lush on the nose with ripe dark plum, dark chocolate (of course) baking spice and nutty flavours on the palate. Rich, supple and easy to love. Enjoy now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
