A terrific Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. Yalumba has been making wine in this region for 160 years. The winery creates this wine from a "patchwork quilt" of soils, aspects, microclimates and cultures, thus the name. The winery has selected specific parts of its cool-climate vineyard in the Eden Valley for this "patchwork" blend of Shiraz. It marries these with some warm plots in the Barossa Valley to create a remarkable wine. A rich, full-bodied, supple Australian red wine with attractive aromas of black plum, blackberries and black raspberries. Incredible concentration and depth with a long finish. Seductive notes of cedar smoke on the finish. Pair with grilled meats.

Shiraz food pairings: barbecued pork spare ribs with a dark sticky glaze.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Delightful. Tangy, tart mouthfeel. Rich and densely concentrated blackberry, plum, raspberry on the palate. Silky tannins, medium plus body, well balanced, integrated medium alcohol. Tasted 2014 vintage in Jan 2018 after 2h decant. Paired well with tangy bbq chicken and ribs. 91 points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Made using grapes from selected parcels in both cooler and warmer areas of Australia's Barossa Valley, thus the name "Patchwork'. Dry with a leather and peppery nose, with a smooth ripe fruit palate that echoes with spicy elements.
Tasted Feb. 2018
Yalumba Winery has been part of the Barossa Valley for over 160 years. as the wine's name indicated, Patchwork 2014 is made from a "patchwork" of Shiraz produced and blended from different terroirs in that wine region. Look for lots of lush dark berries, spice and dark chocolate flavours on the palate from this full-bodied and chewy red. - Community Wine Reviews
