Another terrific off-dry Vineland Riesling from the solid 2014 vintage. Aromas of lime and lemon zest with a deep core of minerality. Pair with fresh halibut in a beurre blanc sauce. This is a great Riesling from the Niagara Escarpment wine region in Ontario to pair with fresh whitefish baked in a white wine sauce. This nose is lime and lemon zest with a distinct mineral flintiness.

Riesling food pairings: salad, mild curries, Thai coconut shrimp.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

In the early 80' (79-81), Hermann Weiss brought German Riesling clones from the Mosel to the Niagara Escarpment and dubbed it the St. Urban Vineyard (Named for Weingut St. Urbans-Hof). Many winemakers in the early days of viticulture in North America would practically pack their baggage with scions to plant when they got back home. That is a little more cowboy than nowadays. Regulations to prevent foreign diseases are in place. You can still buy the wines made from these early plantings, though. You are literally tasting history.
Pale, pale yellow.
Great aromas of apple, pear, quince, kiwi, and confectioner's sigar.
Light alcohol, but NOT light in flavour. Tropical amd fresh. Great acidity that gives the wine much more balance than the typical Riesling with this much residual sugar (this one does have a bit, but it is super well balanced).
Clementine, granny smith, lime, more quince, and a green edge that is best described as chlorophyll or what the Germans sometimes describe as fern.
Pair this with sole cooked with lemon and dill. It would be a fun on eto watch in the cellar for a bit too. Would last at least 5-7.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Yet another successful vintage for this riesling from Vineland estates winery, Niagara Escarpment. Beautiful pale yellow in the glass with a bouquet of unmistakeable lemon, lime, a hint of grapefruit, nectarine and and characteristic minerality. Would pair well with many Thai dishes. Tasted February 2018.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Intense aromatics with lime, peach, apple, and minerality leaping from the glass. Subtle floral touches, mainly rose. Fruity and balanced on the palate with 27 grams of residual sugar per litre, 10.5% ABV, and vibrant acidity. Sourced from some of the oldest Riesling vines in Niagara planted in 1979. Will play nicely with chipotle fish tacos topped with peach salsa.
From the Niagara Escarpment wine region, Vineland Estates' Elevation St. Urban Vineyard (2016) is a bright, mouth watering Riesling from a great vintage. Look for zesty lime, ripe stonefruit, mineral and flinty flavours on this off-dry Riesling. Pair with fresh halibut in a beurre blanc sauce. In 1987, Hermann Weiss brought German Riesling clones from the Mosel to the Niagara Escarpment and dubbed it the St. Urban Vineyard (Named for Weingut St. Urbans-Hof). St. Urban is one of the most important Riesling vineyards in Ontario and "Elevation" is one tier down from their Reserve Riesling. Pair with veal schnitzel. - Community Wine Reviews
