Lots of oak, violets and fresh earth on the nose of this Chilean red wine. It opens up with cherry berry notes on the palate. Medium-bodied and smooth. Try with veal.

Pinot Noir food pairings: planked salmon on the grill, smoked chicken.

Keith Marlowe rated this wine as 93/100
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

An expressive Pinot Noir from a region becoming increasingly well known for their high quality and very affordable Pinost. The big brother to this wine, Viña Ventisquero, Grey, Leyda Valley 2011, was awarded top honors with Decanter giving it 95 points recently. Further evidence that Chile is capturing the attention of serious Pinot lovers around the world. This value priced Pinot, $16 via Vintages, displays attractive sour cherry, flint, and sweet baking spices. A food friendly wine that would complement Asian cuisine, turkey with tart cranberry compote, or cedar plank salmon. Tasted Oct and Nov 2014. 88 points. Matt Steeves - www.nataliemaclean.com
Robert Janiga rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

This cool-climate Chilean Pinot Noir shows characteristic lighter Burgundian colours, but differs in other respects. The nose has pomegranate, beets, hints of rhubarb, sour cherry, and interesting sandal leather and dried flower. I am also getting oak spice. The palate has similar characteristics yet brings out raspberry and strawberry.

The alcohol, at 13.5%, adds some warmth but is still nicely integrated with the other components. There is some pretty decent acidity and tannins in this wine that contribute to structure, but exhibit leanness and minerality.

An interesting Pinot Noir that achieves what the producer was looking for: "We challenge the status quo, always searching for unique and different ways to accomplish our goal..."
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

Oct 23, 2014: Tasted blind at NCSG Vintage pre-release event.
Medium ruby, sour cherry, raspberry/floral note, beet, oak spice and a little earthy on the nose. Medium body with cranberry, sour cherry and earthy notes on the medium length slightly bitter finish. Decent value at $16, drink over the next few years paired with grilled beet slices and goat cheese appetizer or herb crusted cedar planked salmon.
This Single-vineyard Chilean Pinot Noir is part of Queulat's line of single-vineyard wines. The sites are chosen by winemaker Sergio Hormazabal to: "We challenge the status quo, always searching for unique and different ways to accomplish our goal ... to create Great Wines," according to the company motto. The 2012 vintage displays classic Casablancan character. - Community Wine Reviews
