Reviews and Ratings
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Due to different weather patterns in 2017 than 2016, the '17 Sauv Blanc shows a different aroma/flavour profile. Gives more citrus, lanolin and mineral aromas and a lighter mouthfeel. A drier, crisp style with lots of lime, snow peas and juicy citrus finish. Very refreshing, the perfect salad white. Tasted September 2017 with Thornbury's winemaker, Simon Fells.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Water white with a green hue. Vibrant aromas of nectarine, grass, gooseberry and a touch of cilantro. In the palate it really shows tropical fruit, mango, guava, and some pineapple. Sweeter notes on the finish with more tropical fruit and stoney cilantro touches. Definite "cat's pee" element present. High acidity, Light bodied with a medium minus finish with dried grass, and some tropical fruit, peach and nectarine persisting. Differs from the 2016 vintage with more fruit. Fruity and mouth watering.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: The color in the glass is pale straw - Yummy citrus fruit, lime zest, grassy undertones and less tartness by comparison than the 2016 vintage. Nonetheless the grapes were sourced from two of the prime locations for Sauvignon Blanc in Marlborough - the Wairu and Awatere Valleys. Most enjoyable on its own or with many light appetizers or Summer salads.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: 2017 was a cool growing season, which compared to the warmer 2016, created a wine with lighter body, more herbaceous, mineral and citrus notes. Mouthwatering acidity with a long, lime finish. Pair with mixed green salads. Tasted September 2017.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: This pale straw coloured wine has mineral notes and aromas of passion fruit, citrus, and a touch of mint. The citrus flavours follows through and linger on the palate. Tasted September 2017
Simon Chen rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: We had the opportunity to try this one before it's release. it'll be available at LCBO in april 2018. Due to the cooler climate, 17' vintage has less body and less acid compared to the 16'. However, the wine still has a very attractive fruit (guava-like) that lingering in your palate. This is more a summer sipping wine than a food-pairing wine.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Tasted back-to-back with the 2016, the cooler growing conditions of the 2017 are quite evident. Fresh, light-bodied, delicate aromatics, lemony with pepper/green pepper notes. Great for sippng at the moment or with fresh PEI oysters.
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review: Pale white straw colour. The aroma is mineral and herbaceous in character, with gentle tropical notes of passion fruit. The palate repeats the aromas to create a light-bodied refreshing wine with medium zesty acidity and an herbal snow pea finish. Score 86. (S.Segard, reviewed Sept. 25, 2017)
