Natalie's Score: 90/100

A full-bodied juicy Italian red wine with lots of heft and mouth-filling flavour. Dark cherry and black plum, almost prune on the nose of this D.O.C. wine. Good value. This is one of the best producers of ripasso. Featuring aromas of coffee and black cherry. Great dry finish for a wide range of dishes, especially hearty meat ones.

Food pairings: hamburger, hearty soups, pasta, Mediterranean cuisine.

Reviews and Ratings

Ralph rated this wine as 96/100 with the following review:

This is my go-to house wine. Get it while/where you can ... it is often out of stock. I have often had to travel to find a case!
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Italian Red has violet, plum, sweet spice, and leather on the nose. It is tart on the palate with sour cherry flavours as well as plum, subtle floral notes, and cinnamon at the finish. This is an elegant wine with smooth to medium tannins. Excellent value.

Tasted June 2018
From the Veneto wine region, Tedeschi Capitel Nicalo (2015) is a great value full-bodied and juicy Italian red wine under $20 made in the Ripasso style. This medium-weight wine is intense with sour cherry, dried fruit, spice and leathery notes. - Community Wine Reviews
