A robust, smooth, tasty Californian red wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in the Livermore Valley, a cool climate district. The wine is aged in bourbon barrels for four months rather than the oak usually used to age wine from France, Hungary or the US (but not bourbon oak). The bourbon oak staves (panels or strips of wood) impart a maple spice flavour to the wine, much like bourbon itself, with a brown sugar, vanilla toast finish. Aromas of ripe black fruit through the mid-palate. Pair with grilled meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Dark ruby in colour with aromas of plum, dark cherry, vanilla and bourbon caramel. It is full bodied with medium tannins and medium-high acidity with favours of plum, cooked red fruit, vanilla and hints of brown sugar. The bourbon barrel staves add a pleseant and different dimension to this Cab Sauv. This will go great at your next BBQ with steak or burgers. Tasted on November 17, 2019.
Pam Hatton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Deep deep ruby colour with nose of red and black fruit. Plums, black currant, prunes, cumin. Fresh red fruit with vanilla and caramel. Full bodied with dry tannins and oaky finish.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Rich and robust! Aromas of blackberry, back plum, and caramel / vanilla notes. Full bodied and smooth on the palate, with ripe, jammy berries, and a hint of sweetness on the finish. Enjoy with ribs or anything with some BBQ sauce.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The delicious Stave & Steel from California is made from Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in a Bourbon Barrel. This combination offers fragrant aromas of dark skin plum, dark cherry, violet, wet gravel, cigar box, cocoa, vanilla and oak. This 2017 Cab Sauv shows velvety and balanced tannins, and a round finish that offers flavors of black currant, blackberry, black pepper, graphite, coffee, vanilla, smoke and oak. Enjoy!
