Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The wine has a pale depth of colour with a ruby rim and a nose showing excellent pinot noir grape expression composed of intense Morello cherry, overripe strawberry, nutmeg, pomegranate molasses, beetroot, graphite, mocha and some earthiness.

On the palate it is has supple, rich cherry notes along with, plum and baking spices with a silky texture after it opened up. Currently fruit driven, it promises much, should develop complexity over time. 2015 was a very hot year and like many 2015 Okanagan pinot noirs, it has some robustness including some slight cola. The finish is medium minus and all fruit, a very pleasing glass of pinot. I look forward to tasting this wine from a cooler vintage. This wine was produced from the newer Stag's Hollow Shuttleworth vineyard inside the proposed sub-GI area of Okanagan Falls where the soils are gravels, glacial till & silty loam. It is made of 100% pinot noir grapes and the all Dijon clones proportions here are 28% 777, 26% 114, 24% 828, 11% 667 and 11% CL 115.

The winemaker Dwight Sick has had a whole new instrument of pinot noir clones to play on here and has done an excellent job. I would anticipate that with greater vine maturity and a favorable vintage for pinot noir going forward, that this will be top tier B.C. pinot noir.

Hand picked, hand sorted, the grapes were destemmed and whole berry fermented in small 1 ton open topped fermenters using selected yeast strains. The ferments were punched down 4-6 times daily by hand and then pressed directly into 100% French oak barrels (13% new, 77% 2, 3 & 4 year old ). After malolactic fermentation it was aged for an additional 13 months on fine lees before being racked, blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
