Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2012 is a classic wine from the Rioja Valley of Spain. Made from 100% Tempranillo, the king of grape of the Valley, this Spaniard reveals aromas of dried blueberry and blackberry, dried leaves, volcanic rock, tobacco and oak. The wine shows a medium body, a short and dry finish, and elegant balance and freshness. Palate: sour cherry, raisin, dried rose, tobacco and cedar. Enjoy.
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

An extra dry Rioja, medium-bodied with cherry and oak-influenced aromas. Note the vintage is 2012 yet the fruit taste persists on the palate. Medium tannins and a light finish. Pair with roasted poultry or pork.
From the Rioja Alta wine region, Sonsierra 2012 Gran Reserva is produced from 100% Old vines Tempranillo sourced from the slopes of the Cantabrian Mountains - vines are between 35 and 80 years of age. A lovely, medium-plus-bodied red, but also smooth and silky on the palate. Fragrant with dark plum, minty and savoury herbs on the nose. Dry, fruity with rich dark cherry, plum, sweet dried tobacco leaf, smoked meat and savoury spices on the palate. Nicely balanced. Enjoy now and for the next three years. The wine was aged in 70% French and 30% American oak barrels for 24 months prior to bottling. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
