A stunning blockbuster from the Stags Leap District in the heart of Napa Valley. The 2016 vintage of the Shafer One Point Five is a robust red wine blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Malbec grapes. Aromas of black plum, blackcurrant, violets and smoke. Long finish and muscular tannins. Decant 1-2 hours and pair it with a rare steak.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: barbecued meats, venison steak, bison burgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This is a powerhouse wine!! Aromas include black currant eucalyptus, cedar smoke and violets. Full bodied with firm tannin and some heat from the alcohol, as well as some brighter than anticipated acidity. Lots of dark fruit on the palate with more smoke and herbaceous notes in the finish. Lovely balance, enjoy over the next 10 years after decanting and pair with a hearty grilled steak.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has an enticing nose redolent with black fruit, hints of mint and cedar. This is a dense and chewy wine with generous black fruit and firm, grippy tannins. A couple of years in the cellar will reward your patience. Drink 2021-2030. Pair with pepper steak. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A big and bold Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, full-bodied at 15.3%. The label for the Shafer wine - the "One Point Five"- is a playful reference to the father and son team being a generation and a half in producing it. Black fruit and eucalyptus aromas open to more of the same with earthy tastes and smokiness on the palate. Great balance, with medium to high tannins. A long finish. Decant or hold. This is a beef wine! Tasted February 2020.
Shafer One Point Five 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stags Leap District is a powerhouse red wine from the heart of Napa Valley. Intense on the nose with dark chocolate, ripe dark cherries, black currant and minty, spicy aromas on the nose. Dry, full-bodied, rich with dark cherry and berry compote flavours. Powerful! Tannins are firm. Drink or cellar for 15 years. One Point Five is so named refers to John and Doug Shafer’s 35 year father-and-son partnership and celebration of their home in the Stags Leap District since 1973.- Community Wine Reviews
