The Sangiovese grapes that make this wine are grown in the DOC appellation of Maremma Toscana situated in southern Tuscany. It's a warm climate with many hours of sunlight to ripen the grapes. A vibrant Italian red wine with lots of mouth-watering acidity and tart cherry aromas and flavours for tangy tomato sauce and pasta.

Chianti Classico food pairings: braised pork shoulder, slow-roasted lamb shank, stuffed turkey, sausages.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This wine is all black cherry, spice fresh tobacco and herbs. So pure. So elegant. So inexpensive! 91 points (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

What great value and well-executed Sangiovese. Limpid medium ruby red in colour. Complex aroma of ripe red currants, cherries, black olives, and balsamic herbs. The cherries are bit more tart in the mouth and set-off by a gentle acidity. This wine has a medium-light body and a shorter length than the average Chianti style, which may be explained by the fact that these grapes were grown on the coastal plains of Maremma and not in the heart of Tuscany. One thing for sure, this wine has quintessential Italian Sangiovese flavours, which you will wish to enjoy with tomato-based dishes, grilled meats, or pizza. Salute! Score 90/100. (S.Segard, reviewed Feb. 24, 2017)
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Wow! This Tuscan Sangiovese (made with two different Sangiovese clones) is chalked-full of flavour and texture. Dried cherry, plum, herbs, spice and leather on the nose. Dry with dusty tannins, the cherry and spice persist on the finish. This is a super value-priced wine that's guaranteed to get a lot of attention. Buy-by-the-case! Enjoy with BBQ meat, rich pasta, and good conversation. Tasted February 2017. 90 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Sangiovese is THE grape variety of Tuscany and this bright red wine is made from two types of them. Grown on a former marsh exposed to the salty sea breeze, it goes without saying that the grapes are going to impart this onto the wine. The bright red colour gives way to ripe berries and hints of spice on the nose. Flavours of cherry and pepper make this a very versatile and easy drinking wine. I would love this with a charcuterie board or a traditional tomato based pasta dish. Tasted Feb. 24, 2017.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

I truly enjoyed this wine and was pleasantly surprised by the price - extra point for value!
Blended from two clones of Sangiovese, and grown in coastal areas, this wine has a lighter, more fresh style with a hint of brininess to remind you of the sea. Tart cherry, warm spice and leather round out the flavours. A shorter finish, but overall balanced with nice acidity. Very versatile for food. Enjoy with any pasta pizza, or some charcuterie and cheese. (Feb 2017)
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

From the colour to the nose and flavours-this wine speaks cherries to me. Also noted other dark fruit and a hint of mint. Medium bodied with gentle tannins. Warm finish with sweet spice and pepper.very enjoyable. Pair with rosemary crusted lamb.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A great Chianti Classico produced in the Maremma Toscana DOC. Bright ruby red, with aromatic cherry, vanilla and sweet spice, repeated on a smooth palate that adds a hint of chocolate. Food-friendly acidity and a long satisfying finish. Anything you throw into a tangy tomato sauce will go very nicely with this Sangiovese and the price is tasty, too.

Dianne Sheridan - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The vines for this Tuscan Sangiovese are grown close to the sea. The aromas of the saltiness from the sea blends in with the sour cherry, smoke, spice, leather and vanilla. On the palate you get tart cherries and spice with a short to medium finish.

Pair with tomato based dishes.

Cora Beaulieu rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This is a quite a bright wine made from 2 different clones of Sangiovese grapes. Lively and fruity with just-right aromas of strawberry, cherry, plum, floral, slight oak, and nuts. It's mid-weight on the palate. Very little oak present. Dry tannins are light and dusty. Be prepared to taste strawberry, cherry fruit, dried herbs and underlying nutty flavors. Very good length, slightly bitter cherry fruit finish. Pair with cheeses such as Asiago, Parmesan (aged) and Provolone. A genuine table wine at a fair price. [Tasted Feb/2017]
The Sangiovese grapes for Sassoregale (2014) were grown in the wine region of Maremma of southern Tuscany where it is warm with abundant sunlight -- perfect for the Sangiovese grape and the tomatoes and olives that grow there. Pair with a rich and saucy spaghetti Bolognese. - Community Wine Reviews
