Natalie's Score: 90/100

A full-bodied Portuguese red wine with aromas of black fruit, tar and smoke produced by Sogrape Vinhos. Toasty oak but not too much. Finishes with prune, blackberry, mocha and dried tobacco leaves. This robust red wine blend of mostly the native Touriga Nacional grape. Decant 1 hour and enjoy with a rare steak. This wood-aged Portuguese red wine is only produced in great years. Aromas of mulberry and blackcurrant on the nose and palate. Vanilla smoke from oak barrel aging.

Tinto food pairings: meat stews, barbecued ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A big bold dark wine with lots of aromas of black raspberries, leather, tar, spices, and a little cedar and vanilla as well. The taste is blackberry and plum with tannins that are grippy without being overwhelming. There's a distinct spiciness to the taste as well, as well as a warm, spicy black fruit finish.
This Portuguese winery is nestled in the Dão region which is shielded from harsh weather by four mountain chains, so it enjoys a long, consistently warm and even growing season. This wine is made from Touriga Nacional grapes that also go into the region's fortified dessert wines, port. Aromas of black plum jam and dark spice on the finish. - Community Wine Reviews
