Natalie's Score: 93/100 This is what elegance and restraint tastes like from Australia: French grammar school, Australian graduate studies by the consummate gentleman winemaker Peter Gago. Lovely aromas of mint, cassis, blackcurrant and blackberry with just enough toasty warmth from the oak. The 2013 vintage of Bin 128 is terrific, but don't expect a fruit bomb. Terrific layering, depth and complexity with a long finish. Pair with rare filet mignon.
Shiraz food pairings: rich game dishes, roast beef, hard cheese, pizza, grilled or spice-rubbed chicken.

Reviews and Ratings
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Enticing deep ruby colour in the glass with some thick legs. Intense aromas sweet cake spices, mocha, mint and succulent dark berries. The palate is full-bodied and smooth with cleansing acidity Aromas are pretty much repeated on the palate with the addition of some wood and toast. A very elegant Shiraz. Perfect BBQ wine and don't hold the sauce! Tasted: October 2015
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Blackberry and mint dominate the nose. The palace is a beautifully layered bounty of blackberry and spice with a hint of oak lingering within.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Deep ruby/purple with good viscosity and a fragrant nose showing ripe cassis and vanilla. Palate gives cassis, vanilla, touch of mint and slight mocha. Well-balanced acidity and lingering spicy cassis finish. Wow! Definitely a buy-again wine.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Penfold's Bin 128 Shiraz, from South Australia's cool-climate Coonawarra region, that's famous for, among many other things, their terra-rossa soils, is bursting with deep dark fruits, black berry, sweet baking spice, roasted beets, cedar, and a touch of earth. Full bodied, round and luscious, this beautifully balanced Shiraz shows just how great Australia Shiraz can be. At ~$35 across Canada, this wine offers fantastic value and would make a great complement to hearty fall and winter dishes, or tuck it away for a decade and enjoy its evolution down the road. Tasted October 2015. 93 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: The Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz shows a hint of herbal on the nose with ripe blackberry, plum, blueberry, vanilla, mint and baking spice....Full bodied and elegant, this shiraz is well balanced - smooth tannins, a great acidity and a plush mouthfeel with a lingering spicy currant finish. A lovely Shiraz at a great value from a well known producer.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Deep purple, ripe plum, blackberry, blueberry, baking spice, cedar mineral and hint of herbal/eucalyptus. Full body, and plush on the palate, with ripe plummy fruit, berry, cedar, hints of mint and baking spice. Juicy acidity and soft round tannins. Solid Shiraz from a consistent producer. Tasted Oct 2015
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: The Bin 128 from Penfolds 2013 vintage shows dense and dark purple tasted at 14.5% ABV. Vinified from 100% shiraz varietal from South Australia's Coonawarra region. The Bin 128 label was first produced from the 1962 vintage, the Bin series introduced in 1959 and Penfolds was established in 1844 now over 170 years of history behind it. This wine has a heritage built into it, quality extracted from the terroir and finest quality grapes and aged for 12 months after fermentation in French oak barrels. Aromatics of densely concentrated blackberry, strawberry, limestone minerality, black peppercorn, blueberry and a hint of sweet hay. The juicy, mouthwatering impact of this wonderful wine entices the senses to enjoy the unique texture and complexity of this well-balanced, well-integrated tapestry of aromas, flavours and elegant tannins. Pair this with rare AAA roast beef, mildly spiced Tex-mex fajitas, or gourmet BBQ bison burgers. Enjoy 2015-2025.
Alexandre Craig DWS, FWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Powerful and brooding, but hasn't shed it's baby fat yet. Checks all the usual boxes: eucalyptus, blackberry, good structure. It will develop more complexity over time, starting to become interesting in 4-5 years.
Jane LeFresne rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Baking spices, black pepper with dark fruits including blackberry and currant on the nose. Some hints of vanilla and mint. Flavours of blackberry, black currants and spices. A nice balance of acidity and tannins.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Tons of dried fruit, anise, black pepper, dark molasses, and a touch of rosemary. Huge, bold australian Shiraz. Decant before serving.
This full-bodied Australian red wine was matured for a year in French oak, 26% of which was new. This fine-boned, full-bodied Australian Shiraz hails from the country's flagship producer. Beginning in October 2014, Penfolds winery started releasing its bin wines together with its flagship wines like Grange shiraz and Bin 707 cabernet sauvignon. Before that, the winery separated their release between March and October. - Community Wine Reviews
