Pegos Claros Grande Escolha 2016 Vinhas Velhas is a Castelão red wine aged for 12 months in new and previous-use French oak barrels. The Castelão grapes for this vintage were sourced from the winery's oldest vines of 100-plus years of age. Dry, bright and rich with ripe strawberry, red berry, spicy, toasty oak and vanilla flavours on the palate. Tannins are rich. Drink or hold, the wine is still quite youthful and is a good cellaring candidate for 10 years or more. Pairs well with smoked and cured meats, soft and cured cheeses.

Castelão food pairings: grilled bavette steak, venison filet mignon, tourtiere, bison burgers.
