Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A full bodied blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo from Pata Negra this Rioja Reserve is a beautiful example of the terroir - complex, rich, brimming over in tradition and culture - the nose shows ripe red fruit, wild game, black pepper and spice. The palate is well balanced, harmonious and beautifully structured. Lengthy finish. Decanting for 1-2 hours prior to service is recommended. Great with game dishes and surprisingly delightful with dark chocolate.
Pata Negra Reserva (2012) is great value Rioja red under $20. This wine is savoury, smoky with black currant, dark plum and black cherry, berry flavours and finishes with dried tobacco and a touch of vanilla on the palate. Marqués de Carrion has been making wine for over a century. The red wine blend is 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo. - Community Wine Reviews
