Full-bodied and meaty with savoury, fleshy black fruit and smoke. Nice price. Established in 1925, the Cave de Rasteau is one of the oldest wineries in the Rhone Valley. Finishes with dark spices and black fruit. Pair with grilled pork chops. The classic GSM blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, and Syrah is at play here, with Syrah taking a more prominent role than in the past.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

A scrumptuous and romantic old vines blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. The fragrant nose gives aromas of ripe dark fruit, lavender, fennel and a slight floral aspect. The delicious juicy palate shows lots of ripe dark berries, garrique, lavender and oak. Mouth-watering acidity and a silky mouthfeel lead into a long spicy fruit finish. Terrific value for under $20.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A classic Rhone blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah in this medium+ bodied red wine. Medium ruby colour with slow legs. Strawberry, ripe dark cherry, raspberry, pepper, floral, licorice, smoke, and baking spices. The acidity is medium and balanced. A smooth lingering fruit finish. Pair with poultry, game, pork, assorted cheeses.

Produced by Cave de Rasteau, this southern French red wine is made from old vine grapes including Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. These vines have a southern orientation and are planted in clay, limestone, marl and sandstone soils. The village was awarded cru status in 2010. - Community Wine Reviews
