A balanced, elegant Californian Cabernet at a reasonable price. Classic aromas of blackcurrant and cassis. Pair with hamburgers or steak. Mocha and savoury, meaty note with blackcurrant and cassis. Very dry, deep and long.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: smokehouse ribs, spiced steak-and-black-bean burritos.

Reviews and Ratings

Shelley Harris rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Vanilla, berry and smoky overtones followed by a distinct spicy taste. This wine would serve very well with an grilled Asian-flavoured butterflied leg of lamb, in a marinade comprised of hoisin sauce, chili paste, garlic and ginger.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Very berry, minty and a touch of sweet smoke and baking spices. Smooth medium-light tannins, decent acidity, medium body and medium-longish finish. This wine holds all the typical attributes of a California 'King Cab.' Enjoy with honey/maple glazed bbq meats for a sweet smokey wine food pair treat!
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Red fruit and oak on the nose and palate with vanillla and cinnamon also featuring on the taste. Classic Napa Valley cabernet.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Spice, leather, ripe plum and cherry, and violets make up the aroma, as well as a very slight vegetal aspect. The taste is tart red and black cherry, with medium+ acidity, well balanced round tannins, and some spiciness. The finish is long and dominated by spicy black cherry. Pair with BBQ steak.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Dark fruits, sour cherry, vanilla, leather, and herbs on the nose. The palate is dry with nice acidity followed by tart berry and sour cherry notes. Tasted February 2015. 88 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A nice full bodied Cab, aromas of vanilla, cassis, berries and spice. Flavours carry through on the palate. A great steak wine!
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A nice California Cabernet with all the signature characteristics: red and black berries, cassis, graphite, vanilla, warming alcohol, and a lift of mint. The tannins are youthful and the acidity medium. The length is good with a cherry spice finish. I've enjoyed previous vintages a little more given the $27 price tag. Enjoy with grilled red meat, BBQ beef ribs.
Tasted: March 2015
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby purple, the nose is spicy with black currant and green leaf and a bit of violet. Medium body, bright acidity and fine tannins with currant, sour cherry, herb and spice on the long finish. Nice sipper or for when pizza or burgers are on the menu.
About 20% of this full-bodied Californian Cabernet was aged in new French oak barrels. There were 2095 barrels produced for the 2012 vintage. Joe Shirley is the winemaker. - Community Wine Reviews
