Can they do no wrong? Let's not jinx it. This Carmenere (aka Merlot) is incredibly concentrated rich and deep with fleshy black plums that you can dive head first into. Wow. This wine is aged for 12 months n French oak barrels. Another phenomenal wine from Montes ...

Carmenère food pairings: wine-braised beef, turkey with heavy sauces, wild boar, bison chili.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This 2012 Carmenere was produced using dry farming methods. This is the practice of relying on just natural rainfall amounts and no other (or strictly controlled) irrigation. The result should be more condensed, flavourful and smaller berries. Lots of concentrated black fruit flavours, plum, cherry, chocolate, floral, toast, earthiness. A very nice wine indeed. Full-bodied,smooth, medium+ acidity, lingering fruit finish. At $20 it won't break the budget. Serve with finer cuts of beef, hearty beef stew, BBQ hamburger.

Sustainably dry farmed with controlled irrigation, this is a terrific Chilean red wine for the money. - Community Wine Reviews
