Black fruit, chalky dry, firm tannic grip on this big Italian red wine. Pair with a juicy steak.

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby with a garnet hue. Cherry, dried fruit, herbs, and baking spice on the nose. Lovely fruit concentration, with impressive big structure. Cellar for 5-10 years and enjoy with rich and rustic dishes. 91 points. Tasted March 2015. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lots of drying tannins in this mainly Sangiovese wine. Cherry, herbal, warm baking spices, dusty, vanilla. Medium+ acidity. Long tannic finish. Needs cellar time of up to 10 years. Decant at least 2 hours if you choose to enjoy now. Needs hearty red meat dishes perhaps herb rubbed.
Tasted: April 2015
This robust Italian red wine is mostly made from Sangiovese grapes with a splash of Merlot. Aromas of dried tobacco leaves and dark berry. The 2008 vintage of the Petaso Rosso di Montepulciano is a solid one, assisted by the young winemaker Marco Anselmi who is just 25 years old and whose first vintage making wine was 2007 from vineyards was planted by his grandfather. The wine is matured in 40- and 50-hectolitre oak casks. The winery name "Montemercurio" refers to the ancient temple of the god Mercury -- mons mercurio. - Community Wine Reviews
