Natalie's Score: 91/100 This kick-A** Australian red wine from Sarah & Sparky Marquis is not for the faint of palate. It's for those who want a blockbuster experience. Pair with a pepper steak or with gourmet burgers and all the fixings heaped high. A hefty red wine with a great right hook on the palate! Despite high alcohol it still comes together within the context with this towering wine. Black fruit, smoke and rich fruitcake aromas on the nose. Full-bodied and supple with generous layers of flavour. Loaded with black fruit, the 2016 vintage of The Boxer Shiraz offers blackberry jam and dark spice on the finish.
Shiraz food pairings: steak enchilada casserole, deep dish pizza and cheese pie, pan-fried goose breast with watercress.

Reviews and Ratings
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: If you take the modern trend towards the ultra-ripe to its apogee, you find wines of this heft and concentration. This wine is huge. It clocks in at 16% and has the texture of a fortified wine. It is ultra rich. As a suggestion, I would avoid serving it at room temperature because of the alcoholic vapours that crowd out the fruit. Chill it ten to twenty minutes to bring it down to "cellar temperature." you'll enjoy more what it has to offer. Glass saturating purple and red, the aromatics are floral very new-world fruit driven. Eucalyptus, mint, lavender, violet, camphor, blueberry pie filling, and pipe tobacco. Persistent flavours on the palate follow a similar fruit forward style that is extremely rich and juicy, with blueberry and blackberry jam. Mint and a medicinal quality. The only real criticism of this wine is the hotness of the alcohol, but it hardly seems fair to judge it harshly for what it is. It makes no pretense on being anything bilut a huge, fleshy Australian... That it is! Put this with some coffee rubbed t-bones or game, if you hunt. Moose stew would be particularly nice.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Organic. Deep ruby colour with plum, black cherry, prune and figs. Aromas are quite pronounced with lots of cooked fruit, jamminess and nutty fruitcake. Also an interesting “play dough” note as well. In the mouth this brightens up a bit with plum, cherry, vanilla, spice and heat at the end. Lower tannins, medium acidity and medium-full body and finish. Off dry and outward, this Shiraz is a tasty treat. Will pair well with spicy barbecued ribs or pepper steak and roasted green peppers. Tasted October 2017
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: This bottle label is most definitely eye catching to the consumer...this big Australian red is bold with intense smoke and dark jammy fruit on the nose - the palate is loaded with flavor - a notable heat (16% abv), raisin, plum, spice and molasses. Chocolate and spice on the finish. Pair with big juicy steaks on the grill.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Less impressive than the 2014 vintage which was stellar, the 2016 shows lots of black fruit, fig jam, clove, menthol, and pepper. 89 pts.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: This big bold red has purple hues in the glass and is quite expressive. There’s lots of fruit, mostly blackberries, but also strawberries. There are aromas of red licorice, pepper and oak. It is a full bodied ripe wine with well structured tannins. It has good length on the palate. Tasted October 2017.
