This is a powerhouse of a wine, wow! Seductively rich, black cherry liqueur runs through its black heart. Full-bodied, velvet-smooth and hedonistically satisfying. Shiraz comes from the Chinese Block vineyard which is located in the Willunga district at the southern end of McLaren Vale. Biting acidity that isn't unpleasant just a surprise. Result > needs food like steak. Pair with brontosaurus burgers and King Henry VIII-style feasts (you may not need a fork and knife for the food, but you will--almost-- for this concentrated, chewy wine). Highly recommended.

Shiraz food pairings: three cheese pizza, Margherita pizza, roasted asparagus, garlic and goat cheese flan.

Reviews and Ratings

Peter Neilson rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

2009 - opened 2019, and poured 1 1/2 hrs before tasting. A big, complex wine, that is wonderfully integrated. Big alcohol, firm tannins, still fresh acidity, and lots of inky dark fruit in a silky smooth wine. Wonderful! I concur on the 93.
This is a beast of a wine mostly made from Shiraz grapes from the Chinese Block Vineyard in south McLaren Vale. Full on ripe black cherry, mulberry and chocolate, rich, concentrated and a meal in itself. There is a zesty acidity on the wine and this is definitely a food -- read meat- wine: rib steak, Porterhouse, anything steak. Tannins are fine-grained and velvety and the wine finished long. Highly recommended, open it up and let it howl! - Community Wine Reviews
