Concentrated, chary black fruit, smoky oak and mocha on the nose of this robust Italian red wine. This northern Italian red wine is designated Superiore and is aged for 8 months in oak barrels and then another 4 months in the bottle before it's released from the winery to the market. Pair with rare meats.

Barbera d'Asti food pairings: cheesy pizza, roasted pepper, tomato and pasta casserole, grilled Italian sausages.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Juicy, calls for more and what a bargain! Ripe juicy plum, blueberry, and cherry aromas dominate the nose. The palate shows medium integrated tannins, dark chocolate, black tea and tobacco leaf. Acidity is medium+ and integrated. Body is medium+ and smooth. Finish is scrumptious and long. The Michele Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera D'asti is an awesome tomato sauce wine. Pair with heavy tomato based dishes. Aerate for no more than hour prior to serving. Tasted Jan 2017 - @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lovely aromas and flavours of red berry, sous-bois, herb, mineral, and a hint of singed cedar. 89 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Barbera d'Asti is like a good writer for a Piedmonte based movie starring Nebbiolo. The star gets all the credit, but really there is a lot to be said for the behind the scenes work of the scriptors.

This expression from Michele Chiarlo is no exception. Yummy upfront cherry, rose, leather, and earthy notes, with a soft tart finish.

This really is a steal for $14

Designated Superiore (extra percentage of alcohol) is also aged for eight months in oak and four months in the bottle prior to its release. Lots of fresh cherry, red berry fruit ion this wine. Drink now and for next few years. - Community Wine Reviews
