Mazzei Fonterutoli 2021 Chianti Classico is a vibrant and juicy Sangiovese, Merlot, Colorino and Malvasia Nera red wine blend from the Tuscany wine region. Fragrant, powerful and intense with fresh dark cherry, sweet dried tobacco leaf, earthy and wild herb notes, it finishes long on a savoury herb and mineral note. Good now, better in 2026 to drink through 2041.

Chianti Classico food pairings: roast pork tenderloin, grilled veal chops, veal scaloppini.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep purple coloured wine with a pronounced aroma of red cherries and red fruits, baking spice (primarily clove) black pepper, tobacco, forest floor/earthy, leather and a herbal note.the wines is dry, with medium plus acidity and medium tannin, medium body. the aromas were all detected on the palate. Paired well with speck; smoky and savoury notes in both the wine and meat were enhanced; there was a real affinity with hard goat cheese coated with rosemary because of the herbal notes in the wine; the wine paired well with Pecorino cheese with dried Smyrna figs. A great pleasure to drink with food or on its own.
