From Mazzei, Castello Fonterutoli 2016 Chianti Classico is a juicy red blend of 92% Sangiovese, 4% Colorino and 4% Malvasia Nera. Plushy and vibrant on the palate with cherry compote, spiced plum, cinnamon and savoury herb flavours beautifully-balanced and finishing long. Tannins are full and rich. Absolutely lovely and a great cellaring candidate for 10-plus years.

Chianti Classico food pairings: grilled steak, beef bourgignon, grilled lamb chops, meaty lasagne, cheesy pizza, grilled sausages, roast Mediterranean chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Beautiful, vibrant, and bright. This wine has the nicest balance of earthy and fruity. Aromas of red cherry, strawberry, and a spicy plum chutney, along with hints of dried herbs and tobacco. Medium bodied with bright, mouthwatering acidity and some light tannins on the palate. Fruit notes are vibrant and fresh with an earthy, spicy hint on the finish. Enjoy with any grilled sausages or pork.
Produced by Mazzei , Castello Fonterutoli 2016 Chianti Classico is a full-bodied and concentrated 92% Sangiovese, 4% Colorino and 4% Malvasia Nera red wine blend from the Tuscany wine region. Delicious with ripe dark cherry, sweet spice, underbrush, wild forest berry, white pepper and savoury herb flavours that linger on the palate. Tannins are fine and velvety. Drink or hold. - Community Wine Reviews
