Brooding on the nose of this robust Italian red wine with dark fruit, smoke and dark spices. More black fruit follows on a full-bodied palate with some tannic grip and a pleasantly bitter tarry note.

Food pairings: barbecued meats and mushrooms, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

July 9, 2014: Deep ruby with ripe dark fruit, plum and cherry nose along with oak spice and leather. Medium body, ripe cherry, plum, berry fruit with some earthy minerality and a long finish. Nicely balanced with a good streak of acidity and fine tannins. Solid wine that paired wonderfully with homemade pasta with chunky oregano, basil and fennel tomato sauce with Italian sausage and bocconcini. Should drink well over the next 3-5 years.
Decant 2 hours and enjoy with hearty meat dishes.  This is the 51st vintage of this wine. Congrats Salice Salentino! - Community Wine Reviews
