Reviews and Ratings

Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Laguna de la Nava is produced by Grupo Navarro Lopez. This Bodegas was founded in 1904 by Don Juan Megia and specializes in making quality mono-varietal and oak aged wines to meet the tastes of their growing contemporary market.
They are part of the Valdepenas D.O. which is located in the province of Ciudad Real, south of Castile-La Mancha in the centre of Spain.
This wine is made of 100% Tempranillo, called Cencibel locally. The making of this wine includes manual harvest, maceration of the grapes with skin for 6 days, aged for 2 years in predominantly American oak barrels.
In the glass, the wine is of a deep brick red color with thick lazy legs.
On the nose, it expresses aromas of spicy dark fruit cake, Mexican vanilla, 'sucrette' throat lozenges.
The palate is dry, velvety and soft. Tons of Bing cherry compote, plum sauce, a little smoky and herby. The finish is spicy and long with the deepest darkest chocolate aftertaste.
I served this wine to accompany a balsamic, mushroom, mirepoix risotto (made with beef stock and sherry) and extremely garlicky, peppery pan fried scampi's... The wine was perfect even with the shellfish.
Santé!
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of black plum, dried herbs and leaves, and leather. The taste is silky plum and red cherry, with nice silky tannins and solid acidity. There's a long, tart cherry finish.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A tasty Spanish wine, like so many are, this wine delivers nice layers of tart and dried fruits, leather, and herbs. Silky smooth, this is great wine that delivers not only on taste but on value too. Tasted February 2015. 88 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Juicy raspberries, red currants, cinnamon, clove on the nose with a sweet floral note
Tart raspberry, more sweet and savoury spicy palate. Medium body and acidity with firm velvety tannins.

Merguez sausage.
