A fresh, crisp New Zealand white wine made from the Pinot Gris grape. We generally associate kiwi whites with Sauvignon Blanc, but Pinot Gris is equally refreshing and also does well in a cool climate. This 2016 Kim Crawford Pinot Gris offers aromas of lime, Asian pear and lemongrass. Pair with seafood, shellfish and wonderful performances of the Cirque du Soleil.

Pinot Gris food pairings: grilled lobster tail in butter, stir-fried shrimp, grilled salmon.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Aromatic and flavourful Pinot Gris with melon, green apple, lime, ginger and nutmeg. Crisp acidity and fine balance. Perfect for summer sipping.
Tasted August 2017 at Zolta premiere at ZIBI.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Beautiful aroma, fruity and zesty and spicy. Grapefruit, pear, ginger, white tea. Medium body and lingering. A spicy (aromatic) and creamy Indian dish like butter chicken (or butter paneer) would compliment the spice in the wine while the freshness would counteract the richness.
Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Beautifully aromatic Pinot Gris crafted with fruit grown in Wairau and Awatere vineyards in Marlborough. Delicately perfumed nose with pronounced aromas and flavours of Granny Smith apples, ripe pears and honeydew melons. Fruit-forward, vibrant and fresh with crisp acidity. Extremely versatile and food-friendly. Perfectly matched with grilled shellfish, mild cheeses and antipasti.Tasted August 2017. Tania Thomas – www.runawaygrape.com
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Kim Crawford's Gris has some nice New World fruit and reminds me a lot of Alto Adige Pinot, more than Alsace. It is still light and bright.
Lots of white fruit, like white peach, Ranier cherry, and nectarine. It is pretty pleasant, if not a tpuch 1 dimensional.
Pair it with catfish done in garlic butter. Serve with something leafy and green.
Sharon Lécuyer rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Beautiful bouquet of grass, straw and some tropical notes. Tastes of white grapefruit . I found a bit bitter on the finish. Would pair lovely with fish and summer salads.

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Another reliable and consistent selection from Kim Crawford. This is a great summer wine, a bit more subtle than a typical Marlborough New Zealand wine you may have tried before. Lots of pear and lemon on the nose, this wine is a little more viscous and textured, providing a nice weight and mouthfeel. Seems more tropical and warm on the palate, with rounded flavours and less acidity than their Sauvignon Blanc counterparts. Overall, very pleasant and versatile. This wine would be great with lots of summery salads or seafood dishes, but with its added body, would also be a fine pairing with grilled fish or vegetables.
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas and flavors of pear, apple with crisp citrus notes and some baking spice on the palate.
