Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied and aromatic classic Portuguese red produced on the Setubal Peninsula since 1850. Aged in oak 6 mos. Aromatic with blackberries and cherries on the nose, more ripe berries on the rich palate along with figs, vanilla, baking spices, cedar and touch of smoke. Soft tannins and pleasant mouthfeel. Decant 1 hour. Great for meat casseroles, game or with savoury petiscos-that 's Portuguese for tapas. A lot of value for a very enjoyable red wine.
This winery was founded in 1850, and bottled the first red wine in Portugal.
