Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Stunning, rich, and flavourful. Co-fermented with Viognier to add lovely body and aromatic hints. Aromas of rich dark berries and plums, along with hints of dried herbs, vanilla, and a touch of violets. Full bodied, with soft, plush tannins, rounded cherry, plum, and blackberry notes, with more herbal and floral hints with a touch of vanilla and smoke on the finish. Lovely! Enjoy with lamb.
Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Hester Creek Estate Winery's 2020 Syrah is sultry and silky smooth with dark cherry, blueberry, smoked meat, fennel and savoury herb flavours with a hint of vanilla on the palate. The wine is dry, medium-plus-bodied, and beautifully balanced with juicy acidity and a lingering, generous dark berry and ripe dark cherry finish. Tannins are supple and velvety. Poured with slow-roasted wine-soaked venison ribs. Tasted November 2022.

From a great vintage, this Syrah was produced from hand-harvested grapes mostly from the Golden Mile Bench in the south Okanagan, British Columbia. The lots were fermented in Italian Ganimede fermenters and crafted in the Côte-Rôtie style, co-fermented with 15% Viognier. The wine was aged in American oak and French oak barrels (60/40% with 2/3 in neutral barrels) for 14 months giving the wine its delicate smokiness.
