Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

A phenomenal wine from a Cinderella-story vintage. The 2018 Garland from Hester Creek Estate Winery is a rich and plushy Bordeaux-style red wine blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Franc sourced from the Golden Mile Bench, aged 24 months in French oak barriques, primarily Saint Martin and Alain Fouquet with medium-plus toast.

Absolutely delicious now, Garland 2018 can cellar for eight-plus years from vintage date. Elegant, intense, full of dark fruit drama and downright sensuous on the palate with cassis, dark plums, blueberry, savoury herbs, French vanilla, finishing loooong and velvety on a mineral note. Absolutely beautiful in every way! So, if you are still looking for a gift wine (hint, hint, Father's Day) this is the one. Enjoy with a prime rib roast and all the trimmings. Tasted May 2022.
An Origin Wine, Garland is our iconic Cabernet Sauvignon driven Bordeaux style blend that includes Merlot, Petit Verdot, a splash of Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Handpicked last at our historic estate, the nicely ripened grapes are hand sorted, destemmed, and left intact to ferment in our Italian Ganimede fermenters. Garland sees only our best French barrels, primarily Saint Martin and Alain Fouquet, and is aged for 24 months. Savoury and enveloping, this vintage of Garland leads with black currant, blackberry, and dried herb aromas. The full-bodied palate showcases a pleasantly firm tannin structure with flavours of huckleberry and currants, along with vanilla undertones and a streak of minerality. Quietly impressive with a polished texture, a stellar representation of the Golden Mile Bench. Only 774 six pack cases made.
