Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

From Hester Creek Estate Winery’s Foundations Wine Tier, Character 2020 is a dry, full-bodied and savoury blend of Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes, mostly sourced from the Golden Mile Bench estate. An easy-to-enjoy red blend balanced with medium acidity and a fresh, medium-plus-intensity mouthful of blueberry, dark cherry, savoury herb, cinnamon, clove and pepper spice flavours finishing with a smooooooth chocolatey kiss. Tannins are medium and velvety. Perfect for turkey dinner which is what we poured it with. The winery suggests a pairing of savoury vegetarian pizza. Tasted December 2021.

Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed and gently fermented in Italian Ganimede tanks. After pressing, the individual lots were blended and aged eight months on fine lees in French (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A lovely, easy drinking blend of Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Aromas of currants, blueberry and dark cherry with warm spice hints and some black pepper. Full bodied with soft, drying tannins, and mouthwatering acidity on the palate. Fruit notes on the palate are rich and bright, with a warm, spicy finish. Enjoy with a classic beef bourgignon.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
