Reviews and Ratings

Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The 2010 Grant Burge Miamba Shiraz, sourced from 20 year old vines and then aged in French Oak for 12 months; has appealing aromas of lees, blackberry and black cherry on the nose and blackberry, raspberry, coconut, vanilla and oak on the palate. It is a full bodied, extra-dry/dry, fruity wine; with good acidity, refined tannins and a medium finish. Drink with food or sip on its own; drink now – 2018+. My impression: NICE, 88-89 pts. Tasted at Australia Today 2014 Trade show http://grapeselections.com/australian-wine/ in Feb/14.

Mark Britton rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

The overly aggressive licorice flavours take away from an otherwise decent wine. Strong black fruit are a bit off balance from the strong french oak. Overall however pretty much what you should expect from a Barossa Shiraz and not bad value at $21.95.
THE FRUIT
The fruit is grown in the Miamba vineyard at the southern end of the
Barossa, near the town of Lyndoch. The Miamba vineyard has a long
viticultural history, but when Grant bought it in 1983 it was completely
bare. Careful planting and sustainable practices have returned this block
back to its former glory. The 2010 vintage was outstanding in the Barossa,
where a mild summer allowed even ripening and retention of natural
acidity as well as the development of concentrated flavours.
THE WINEMAKING
After crushing and de-stemming, the fruit was fermented in 4,
7 and 11 tonne fermenters and pumped over 3 times daily for 8
days to extract colour and flavour as well as helping control the
temperature of the ferment. This wine was pressed directly into
new French oak hogsheads and older oak barrels to complete
both fermentation and secondary malolactic fermentation. These
components then remained in oak for several months before being
blended. The entire blend was then transferred back into oak where
it was left to mature for a further 18 months before bottling.
The 2010 Miamba Shiraz is vivid purple in colour. The
wine displays vibrant aromas of dark fruits, blueberries,
mocha and savoury spices. The palate is complex, with
concentrated flavours of spiced plums, blackberries, musk
and cracked pepper layered with grainy tannins and a
lengthy finish. The oak treatment of this wine has evolved
from previous vintages, with fermentation and maturation
conducted in a greater proportion of French and European
oak barrels. We believe has refined the style and structure of
the wine. Enjoy now with Beef and red wine jus, or cellar for up to 10 years
