Rounded, delicious and sumptuous! Sink your teeth and hedonistic heart into this South African red wine. Lovely aromas of blackberry, cassis, spice, and plum. Ripe black plum and toasty oak. Yum. Bring it on! Decant for 1-2 hours and pair with hearty meat dishes. This big red wine is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, pinotage, and it aged in oak for 18 months.

Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Pinotage food pairings: barbecued ribs, hamburgers, chicken wings.

Reviews and Ratings

Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This bold South African blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Pinotage introduces itself with aromas of juicy berries and mint. Plum and spice linger in the mouth. Great with roasted leg of lamb
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This is a very pleasant medium to full-bodied sipper. Mint and coconut on the nose. Plenty of black fruit and a creaminess on the palate. Acid is still evident. Medium finish. Boldness of the wine would stand up to hearty lamb or beef dishes.
Gerhard Swart, winemaker, has delivered a terrific South African red wine blend of the money! This is a robust blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz, 30% Pinotage grapes. This wine is named after the Dragon Tree given to the Port Captain of Cape Town a century ago. He planted it on the waterfront where it grew to be 150 years old. According to the back label, legend has it that when dragons are wounded they fly out to the sea to die. Only where a dragon's blood was spilled would a Dragon Tree grow on that patch of earth. - Community Wine Reviews
