Natalie's Score: 87/100

This fortified Spanish wine is dry, smoky and nutty: it's an acquired taste, but one well worth acquiring. This Sherry underwent oxidative aging under a layer of flor aestro (layer on top) that creates a bitter almond finish. The wine was aged in American oak casks.

Sherry food pairings: Manchego cheese, cheddar cheese, roasted nuts.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This is a stunning offering from Maestro Sierra, with loads of decaying Apple, sultana, toasted nuts, scorched honey, preserved citrus and dried flowers. It’s yeasty, salty, and utterly delicious. 93 Points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Made from Palomino grape in traditional Solera method using criaderas. Darker in colour and richer in flavour than Fino. Aged oxidatively under layer of flor for 3-8 years, then matures further without flor lending unique profile. Roast almonds, golden raisins and distinctive saline aromas. The palate gives nutty flavours with raisins, buttery richness and savoury notes in a mouth-watering mouthfeel, very silky smooth and a long buttery/nutty finish. Serve around 12 C. Would pair beautifully with beef consommé, chorizo or paté.Tasted Nov. 2016
This fortified Spanish 12-Year-Old Amontillado is dry, smoky and nutty. The layer of flor aestro that covered the sherry in solera is responsible for the bitter nut finish at the end. Great with Manchego cheese and roasted nuts. - Community Wine Reviews
