Meaty, savoury and lip-smacking delicious! Enticing eucalyptus and blackberry aromas in this full-bodied, smooth Australian red wine. Sure to please even the most hardened cabernet fan. Loaded with concentrated dark red fruit flavours on the finish, along with a spice kick. This robust red wine was not fined or filtered. Pair with meat lovers pizza. The palate of this big Australian Shiraz offers lots of black fruit and smoke. This wine was matured for 12-18 months in a combination of French and American oak. Fermentation was stopped two-thirds of the way through and juice was not filtered. "Footbolt" is named in honour of the racehorse that founder Joseph Osborn had to sell in order to start the d'Arenberg winery in 1912. Since 1912, the Osborn family has farmed vineyards in the McLaren Vale. Winemaker Chester Osborn takes small batches of grapes that are crushed then transferred to open fermenters and then foot treading is undertaken. The wine is aged in American and French oak for 12-18 months.

Shiraz food pairings: black bean soup, blue cheese, caramelized onion dip.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This wine is just awesome. Saturated black and purple fruit with sanguine notes, hung game, smoke, crushed fresh and dried flowers and some dried mint on the finish. This wine demands Ribeye on the grill. 93 Points.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

If you are looking for a full bodied, full flavor wine, look no further. Intense blueberry, blackberry, spice, espresso, wood, leather, mint and cracked black pepper. This wine is well balanced with silky tannins and smooth on the finish. Perfect with grilled steaks on the grill. Tasted January 2018.
d'Arenberg's Footbolt 2014 is a very smooth Australian Shiraz from the McLaren Vale, South Australia wine region. This robust, full-bodied juicy red was not fined or filtered. Look for blackberry, blueberry, nutty and dark chocolate flavours. Full body, round and juicy. Great structure and intensity, decant for two hours prior to serving with a big juicy steak or hold in cellar for a few years for this Shiraz to fully develop. - Community Wine Reviews
