Clos Malverne Le Café 2015 is a full-bodied, perfectly balanced and well made Pinotage with coffee, mocha and cake spice aromas with chocolate covered coffee bean, ripe dark fruits and smoky savoury herbs on the palate. Fantastic value under $20 from the Stellenbosch wine region. The Pinotage grapes were grown in the Devon Valley owned by Seymour and Sophia Pritchard. Winemaker Suzanne Coetzee fermented the grapes in open fermenters and then used a gentle basket press. The wine was aged in oak barrels, 85% French and 15% American.

Pinotage food pairings: smoked spareribs, coffee-rubbed beef, grilled peppercorn steak, meat topped pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Pinotage is South Africa's signature grape variety and this wine does not disappoint. The stunning property of the Clos Malverne Wine Farm is the home of this wonderful wine. The flavors of coffee, mocha and cinnamon are in perfect harmony and the mouthfeel is elegant and silky with a lingering subtle spice on the finish. Excellent value. @closmalverne
From the Stellenbosch wine region, Pinotage Clos Malverne Le Café 2015 is a full-bodied, well-crafted Pinotage with dried herbs, smoke and mocha aromas on the nose. And as the name suggests, coffee, mocha, cake spice and sous bois flavours on the palate with a lingering coffee finish and grippy tannins. Nicely done and well-priced under $20. Pair with roasted meats. The Pinotage wine grapes from this vintage were sourced from the Devon Valley owned by Seymour and Sophia Pritchard. The wine is aged in heavily toasted French oak with 15% American oak. - Community Wine Reviews
