Reviews and Ratings
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Highly aromatic with lime, fragrant mandarin orange and mineral notes, showing a great balance between clean fruit flavours and mouth-watering acidity. Washington’s suitable climate makes this the “King of U.S. Riesling”. So versatile with food, you can enjoy it throughout the meal. Tasted June 2017 at Social Restaurant, #CSM50
Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: This beautifully aromatic Columbia Valley Riesling is a winemaking collaboration between Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Bob Bertheau and Mosel’s legendary winemaker Ernst Loosen. Fresh and lively with crisp acidity. Aromas and flavours of apricots, tangerine and lime with pronounced minerality, leading to a polished, lingering finish. Perfect pairing with grilled shrimp with a splash of lemon juice. Tasted June 2017. Tania Thomas – www.runawaygrape.com
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: I am a fiend for Eroica. It is one of the best expressions of Riesling outside of Europe. The 2015 features gorgeous kumquat, squeezed lime, unripe stonefruit, lemon sour candy, and enoki mushroom. The acidity is mouthwatering and balances the sugar perfectly. 92 points. Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Eroica, meaning heroic or champion, is also the name of the third symphony that Beethoven composed originally as a tribute to Napoleon. Eroica 2015 is a very expressive German-inspired Riesling with Washington terroir attributes, that makes it a fine example of the ultra premium Riesling that Chateau Ste. Michelle produces in partnership with Dr. Loosen of Germany. The nose is very aromatic with ripe stone fruit, wet stone, and floral characteristics. The palate is crisp with layers of fresh apple and stone fruit wrapped up with a mineral-driven finish. A very impressive Washington Riesling. Tasted June 2017. 91 points. Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Aromas of lime and a slight some petrol note with crisp lime and some minerality on the palate. Wonderfully consistent acidity throughout. Pair with Asian or Thai dishes.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: This wine is the result of two infamous winemakers, one Old World (Dr. Ernst Loosen) and one New World (Bob Bertheau) collaborating to produce an exemplary Riesling. With 2015 being a warm season the grapes were harvested at night and pressed immediately to preserve the acidity. Aromas of citrus; lime and lemon peel, with plenty of minerality (think wet slate). Slightly off-dry with soft citrus flavours. The acidity is there but not dominant. Paired with grilled asparagus, prosciutto and a lemon/dijon dressing - divine! Tasted June 2017
Lise Charest Gagne rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: This Riesling is a Washington staple. The cold conditions in October set the stage resulting in a subtle “not messed up wine” according to Bob Bertheau and I agree! Aromas of citrus and chalk with a hint of floral sweetness. It’s smooth on the palate and almost fatty with some lime. The finish hit me with some balanced acidity and medium sweetness at 13g/L of RS. I would love this with some Greek food (think souvlaki) that would complement the name that it’s derived from.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: This Riesling is a beautiful balance between old world and new. Dry, but with a touch of a sweet citrus note, dominant aromas include lime, lemon peel and a beautiful stony minerality. Nicely tart and some vibrant acidity to make your mouth water and wake up the senses. Pair with summer salads or a light ceviche.
