From the Blaye Côtes De Bordeaux wine region, Château Le Cap 2018 Merlot is produced from sustainably grown grapes. Perfumed with rich ripe plum, blackberry, blueberry, cinnamon and pepper spice flavours juicy on the palate. Tannins are substantial. Decant one hour prior to pouring it with a roast of pork or give it another year in cellar and try it in 2023.

Food pairings: tourtière, bison burgers, grilled meats, roast duck, ribeye steak, veal Porterhouse.

Reviews and Ratings

Trent Mayers rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

You don’t often find Bordeaux and reasonably priced in the same sentence, but if you look in the Bordeaux hinterlands, like the Cote de Blaye, you can find some good, well priced wines. This blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon is tannic and could do with a few years of cellar time to evolve. If you want to try it now, decant to soften it. Then you’ll enjoy the black cherry, spiced plum, cedar, clove, tobacco, leather, and smoke that are concealed in this young wine. Beef tenderloin topped with truffle mushroom topping will bring out its best. This can be cellared until at least 2025 and possibly longer.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is an excellent value Bordeaux, made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of plum and black cherry with warm spice, oak, and campfire smoke. Full bodied, with some young grippy tannins, and bright acdity balancing dark fruit notes and more oak and smoke on the finish. Decant for 30 mins and enjoy with marinated flank steak.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Made by Vignobles Carreau, Chateau Le Cap 2018 delivers freshness and the authenticity of a Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux wine. Blended from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, black currant, bay leaf, graphite, baking spice, incense and cedar. This Bordelais shows a medium body, fresh acidity and long tannins. Its finish is short and dry, providing multiple food pairing options. Palate: red currant, red plum, tobacco leaf, new leather, spices, smoke and cedar. Enjoy.
From Blaye Côtes De Bordeaux, Château Le Cap 2018 is a great value, full-bodied Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon red wine blend under $20. Fresh with dark plum, cassis, red berry fruit, savoury herbs and spicy on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews
