Natalie's Score: 92/100

An excellent medium-plus-bodied, juicy Bordeaux, but young. Needs serious cellar time to sooth out and come together. Deep violet in the glass, fresh blackberry, savoury spice and cocoa on the nose, grippy on the palate. Château La Garde 2015 would benefit with a couple of years in cellar to begin to show its best. This is the flagship wine of this house, and it declassifies 50% of production to maintain incredibly high standards vintage after vintage. The vines are planted in all the proto-typical Bordeaux soils: gravel, clay and limestone. The current owners purchased this chateau in 1990.

Food pairings: rare grilled steak, game roasts, hard cheeses.

Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Lovely and intense ruby red colour. Busy nose, ranging from ripe red berries to gentle oak, smoke, and spice, and eventually dark fruits too. Firm acidity, nicely structured, and good body. Excited to watch this age and develop in the years to come. Palate and generous finish exhibit blackcurrant, red plum, and sweet vanilla. 2022 to 2030, serve with prime rib or lamb chops.
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

An impressive wine, and with its dark fruit notes, complex bacon and smoked meat on the mid-palate, this wine is bold, robust, and an outstanding find for under $50. Savour the finish loaded with the outstanding lingering after notes of currants and game. Great with any meaty or gamy dish, such as lamb, venison, or bison.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

From the Dourthe family, Chateau La Garde, located in the Pessac-Léognan in the Grave AOC Region, offer an intense and elegant wine. Chateau La Garde 2015 exposes vibrant aromas of dark plum, blackberry, black pepper, cocoa, caramel and oak. Made from 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdo, the wine shows a nice balance, a pleasant structure and silky tannins. Full-bodied with a long and generous finish, this creation will charm any amateur of Bordeaux wine. Palate: black plum, black cherry, tobacco leaf, leather, vanilla and oak. Great wine. Enjoy!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Powerful on the nose!! Lots of raspberry, plum, violet, dried herbs, leather and smoke. Full bodied, with firm tannins and bright acidity. Fruit is more forward on the palate, with herbaceous and smoky notes carrying through on the finish. Decant for 1-2 hours before serving now, and definitely save or enjoy over the next 10 years. Perfect with your next prime rib.
From Pessac-Léognan, Château La Garde 2015 is smoky with dark cherry, crushed raspberry, mocha and vanilla flavours on the palate. Dry and juicy all at the same time this is a medium-plus bodied 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot youthful red blend. Drink or hold for two years. Pair with a grilled beef bavette. - Community Wine Reviews
