Château de Montfaucon Baron Louis 2015 is a rich Rhône red from Lirac and is dry, full-bodied and velvety with lavender, wild herbs, dark berry, cherry, tanned leather, cedar brush, anise and pepper spice flavours vibrant on the palate. A beautifully-crafted 50% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 15% Syrah and 10% Carignan red wine blend to drink now or hold. Château de Montfaucon is an 88-acre estate located across the Rhône River from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a U.C. Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking team at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Baron Louis was a seminal figure in the history of Montfaucon and restored the château on the estate in the 19th century.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Amazing value for a hand harvested, cru Beaujolais. Lifted aromas of raspberry and strawberry. Generous fruit on the palate with fine tannins. Medium body with good acidity. Pair with beef bourguignon. Excellent value. Tasted Dec 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A long list of grapes, all familiar to Rhone wines, contribute to this wine, with Grenache leading the way. Pours medium garnet, the oak aging comes through on the aromas with leather and cedar among them. Plum and spice on the palate with medium tannins. Licorice on the finish. Serve with beef, lamb or roast pork.
From the Lirac, Chateau de Montfaucon Baron Louis 2015 is rich and full-bodied with dark plum, berry, anise, vanilla and oak spice flavours finishing long and satisfying on the palate. Tannins are firm. Drink or hold for five years. If drinking now, decant two hours prior to pouring with a roast beef. - Community Wine Reviews
