Aromas of black fruit, toasty oak, tar and dark spice. Château de Gourgazaud makes this terrific red wine from southern France. Château de Gourgazaud celebrated 200 years of wine production in 2014. The estate has 70 hectares of vineyards, of which 40 hectares are designated AC, the appellation control designation. The balance are Vin de Pays d’Oc, and still yield wines of great quality. This full-bodied red wine is made mostly from Syrah grapes, but there's also Mourvèdre. This wine is aged for 12 moths in oak barrels. This is gorgeous wine country to visit, and even better wine to drink. Pleasantly bitter finish. Try it with grilled meats tonight.

Food pairings: roast leg of lamb, barbecued ribs or wings.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A Syrah, Mourvedre blend, aged in oak 12 mos. Red berries, dark fruit and leather aromatics, then a voluptuous palate with red berry flavours, licorice, dried herbs and well-integrated oak. Satiny mouthfeel and long velvety finish. A wonderful wine to savour or give as a gift.
